Andy Gilmore is Brandhub’s latest asset and Creative Director and will bring the perfect combination of cheek and exquisite ideas to the table. Let’s see what makes this Christchurch boy turned Auckland Sailor, tick.

So, how does a Christchurch boy, like yourself, find his way to the big smoke?

After a life and career based in the South Island, a door to opportunity opened when I was offered the role of Head of Design at Ogilvy Advertising. I’m not one to back down from a challenge and have always loved the Auckland way of life (I’m a Sailor born in a Graphic Designer’s body!), I packed everything into one small car and made the drive north. Eight years later, Auckland has become home and my passion for sailing has grown and now includes my partner and son.

You’ve had a very interesting career and worked on some great Brands over the years, including the NZ Rugby Union, New Zealand Cricket, State Insurance, IAG, Fiat, Alfa Romeo… What’s your favourite part of the creative process?

My favourite part of this wonderful creative process is uncovering the ‘nugget’; the idea that can be woven into a powerful and compelling story, and then bringing that idea to life through beautifully crafted design.

You have worked on both sides of the table – in Agency and Client roles – what do you see as the biggest challenge facing businesses today?

I think one of the many big challenges in business today is to keep evolving to remain relevant in your sector. Brands today are fluid things that can never stand still – a logo is a word but a brand is a conversation.

It’s great to have you on board at Brandhub. We are very excited about our future. What drew you to us and what are you most looking forward to?

I was drawn to Brandhub by the opportunity to help a dynamic young creative business grow. I’m excited about the chance to work with a great team of Creatives, Designers and Account Managers to push the envelope – creating better work than before.
